Book Review: The Power of your Subconscious mind

I got this book as a lovely gift from one of my team members. It had been sitting on my shelf for a while until I finally had the opportunity to dive into it over a long weekend.

As a psychology enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by understanding how our thinking process and mind work, and how it manifests into actions in our day-to-day life. I always keep at least a couple of books from the psychology genre marked as a must-read in my to-do reading list.

The power of your subconscious mind – by Joseph Murphy

Joseph Murphy is an Irish author of the 19th century. He is a proponent of the New Thought Movement. He has authored more than 30 books and this book is one of his best sellers.

If I were to break this book into logical sections, below are the four areas covered:

  1. How the human mind works and the interaction between conscious and subconscious minds
  2. How the power of the subconscious mind was used for mental healing in the past and is being used in the modern world
  3. How Psychologist, Scientists, Archeologists, and different successful professionals use the power of the subconscious mind to achieve their goals
  4. How we can harness the hidden power of the subconscious mind to significantly improve our quality of life and achieve our life goals

The author shares amazing practical techniques that can be used for mental healing and achieving life goals. Here are a few:

  1. Scientific Prayer
  2. The Visualization Technique
  3. Mental Movie Method
  4. The Bandoin technique
  5. The Sleeping technique
  6. The “Thank-you” technique
  7. The Affirmative method
  8. The argumentative method
  9. The absolute method
  10. The decree method

Here are some excerpts from the book…

“Whatever you claim mentally and feel as true, your subconscious mind will accept and bring forth into your experience”

“The conscious mind learns through observation, experience, and education whereas the subjective mind perceives through intuition”

“Healing is due to a confident expectancy, which acts as a powerful suggestion to the subconscious mind”

I want to point out that the author utilizes quotes from the Bible to explain certain concepts. While some may see this as correlating with the idea that the Bible also encourages mental well-being, others may perceive it as carrying a religious assertion.

Overall, this remarkable book in the self-help genre left a lasting impression on me. The author’s scientific approach provided a deep and relatable exploration of our mental processes within our daily lives. This book has truly resonated with me, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking to gain a better understanding of their thought patterns, mental well-being, and of course, invoke the hidden power of the subconscious mind.
